Dancing Saturday Night Away at Welcome to America Project's
Annual Prom
February 20, 2010
h
The 2010 Annual Prom was a huge success, raising awareness and support for WTAP
with the help of over 200 attendees. Refugee guest speaker, Saad Ghulam, gave a riveting speech to thank WTAP supporter
for helping families like his.
h
Saad arrived in
Phoenix in July of 2009 as a refugee from Baghdad, Iraq where he owned a farm and date factory. In 2007, Saad, his sister
and elderly mother were forced from their home when they were threatened with death. While the family esceped, their
home was destroyed. The Welcome to America Project volunteers visited Saad shortly after his arrival, bringing necessary
household items and health supplies. Saad says, "My dream is to have dignity and peace here."
h
The Bee Gee's records spun as Meredith Bess recalled
disco dance moves for excited attendees.
