The family we will visit today is a mother and father, 3 daughters and 3 sons, ranging in age from 1 year to 13 years. The mother is pregnant and is due in mid March. This family is from the Congo originally but left the Congo in 2005 due to the war and their safety. They fled to Uganda where they have been in a refugee camp since then and just came to the United States in mid December. The father worked in the Congo in a sugar factory prior to leave for the refugee camp.
This family has a father, mother and a 1 year old son and are from Afghanistan. They know very few people here and most of their family is still in Afghanistan. The father worked for various US companies for the past 4 years in a variety of jobs from translating to financial management. He has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration/finance and has an MBA – both from Universities in India. The mother is learning English and stays at home with their son. They left due to concerns for their safety due to the father’s jobs with US companies. It took them 2 years to apply to come to the US and finally be allowed to leave.
This family came to the US in mid December and are Burmese. They have been living in a refugee camp in Thailand for 8 years. The father did farm work near the border of Thailand prior to leaving Burma. The mother is a homemaker. There are 2 sons, ages 14 and 20, 1 daughter, age 17 and a niece who is 31.
