Our first family is from Burma. There are 6 people in this family consisting of a mother and father and their 4 children ages 4, 9, 19, and 8 months. They left their home country because they had all their belongings and food taken away by the military. They fled to Thailand where they spent 8 years working on the plantation before recently arriving in the Phoenix area.
Our second family is from Burma. There are 5 people in this family consisting of a mother and father and their 3 children ages 9, 13, and 19. They fled Burma to Thailand because they were afraid of the military and were not able to work. While in Thailand for 14 years they worked growing vegetables.
Our third family is from Burma. There are 7 people in this family consisting of mother and father and 5 children ages 9, 7, 5, 3 and 1. They also have another child on the way. When the mother fled from Burma 13 years ago, it took her family 11 days to walk to Thailand where she met and married her husband.
Our fourth family is from Bhutan. There are 5 people in this family consisting of mother and father and 3 children ages 13, 11, and 8. They fled to Nepal 18 years ago because they were threatened and the father was beaten. The father’s brother died in the refugee camp. They still have family in Nepal. They arrived in Phoenix 7 months ago.
